Below is text for a simple flyer or email I volunteered to put
together for getting more volunteers for the Jails. It's plural now
because we can soon go into the Satellite. We met today to talk about
this, among other things. Let me know if you have comments. Should I
say that about background check?
Once this is finalized, I will send it to library students, and
probably Psych, Social Work, English, and others. I'll also post a
few flyers in various campus buildings and the local libraries. Also
the Progressive Resource list, AWARE, etc. I will send a final copy
around, and ask people to forward to likely lists they are on.
Susan B (who left notes for the meeting at BtP so I can't do the
minutes until tomorrow.)

Library Volunteers Needed for the Champaign County Jails
A unique volunteer opportunity, requiring only 3 hours every 4-6 weeks.
Books-to-Prisoners of Urbana-Champaign supplies and runs a library in
the two County Jails. New volunteers work with experienced librarians
to help inmates find and check out books. The library is stocked with
books provided by community book drives.
All of us who volunteer at the Jail Libraries can attest that this is
a highly rewarding opportunity to work with readers, books, and the
community.
If you would like to know more, contact Susan Bruce at
susanpbruce at yahoo.com. Information is available about how the library
works and the required background check.
