[Bookstoprisoners] sale, women's prisons

I'm not sure if "promo to calendars" includes the booksalefinder.com promo. It is a list of a lot of book sellers. Isn't there a Chicago prisoner book group that only sends to the women's prisons? And Arise Bookstore, in Mpls? Are they still functioning?

BTPers,

I just thought I'd let you know. Since we migrated our web site to the new
server we now have a way to keep track of our traffic (how many visits we
get).

- During our first full month (September) we had almost 10,000 hits (clicks)
from 481 unique visitors, half of whom returned a 2nd time in the month.
- So far in October (as of the 5th - today) we already have 4307 hits from 127
unique visitors!

This was a pleasant surprise to me and I thought I'd share it with you.

Books to Prisoner will be having a meeting on Saturday October 14 at 1pm.

We are anticipating that it will last 1.5 hours -- long time since we met.
Lots to talk about!
Please look over the agenda items so far... If you are keystaff... please
look them over early, so you can be thinking of solutions.

Agenda items so far:

1a. Upcoming Books Sale and dividing up responsibility for it.
promo to calendars
fliers
radio and tv
schedule of workers/ hours
getting volunteers (contacting Lincolns Challenge, Volunteer Illini,)
making signs
accounting / Books
dumpster/cleanup

1b. Romp Stomp Slam Jam event

2. Job Description of potential paid worker proposed

3. Jail Library
(Susan B. can you call Nancy and tell her we need an answer re satellite
jail)
bookmark
stamping books
budget for buying books
how to staff satellite

4. Report from those who went to visit Dwight Prison
how to do outreach to Dwight & other women's prisons

5. Accounting
- Report on Amazon Sales
- Report of expenditures and balance

6. Work-day procedure
how to manage large crews
how to get a procedure manual/training together, that is easily changed and
followed
how to accommodate different needs while working (music vs quiet)
(experienced workers matched with untrained workers)
should we continue to file? (how will be ever weed files?)

Packaging Labels: Jennifer has volunteered to make labels for packages, (so
packagers just have to fill in prisoner name and number) who can get her
list of prisons that we ship to and keep that list updated for her (which
are individual/ which are bulk?)

She has also volunteered to regularly call the mail rooms of each
prison...can we agree on a list of what she should be asking?
-- do they take hardback; will they accept "bulk"; will they accept boxes?;
will they accept padded envelopes?

7. Misc:
Book donations are slowing down: do we want to ask Honors sorority to do
another book drive? Find a prominent place in Champaign for drop off? Who
will pick up monitor it?
Who will make general flier?
How can we keep track of volunteers/ recognize them?
What should be next priority with computer system. (be able to search by
order #?, books sent?)

What else?

Sandra

I would like to talk about donating books to the Danville prison (via Sara
who has been volunteering with us recently and teaches there).

Managing boxes is "special" job at Books to Prisoners

It would be helpful if we had one person managing the box/packaging material
situation.

They would
- get banana and copy paper boxes from stores
- get shipping boxes (from Urbana library, bookstores, etc)
- keep and eye on supplies and order from U-Line as needed
- weed and recycle unsuitable boxes

This volunteer would need a car. Not a big job, but it would be helpful if
it
was managed by one person.
