Paul Wright, the editor and founder of Prison Legal
News<http://www.prisonlegalnews.org/>,
will be our keynote speaker on Saturday afternoon. Paul started his
publication 18 years ago while incarcerated. Since its inception in May
1990, PLN, as it's commonly known, has published hundreds of issues,
becoming the longest-running prison publication in U.S. history. Throughout
Paul's editorial career, he has been successfully involved in several law
suits

ensure protection of inmates' First Amendment Rights. Paul will be
sharing his legal experiences related to the mailing of printed materials to
inmates. Following his address, there will be discussion about options for
prison book projects dealing with the costly rejection of packages.

Many prison book projects are also involved in collecting and publishing
prisoner writing and art. In recognition of the connection between literacy
and creativity, the National Conference of Prison Book Projects will include
an exhibition of prisoner art, readings of poetry written by prisoners and
will feature a workshop led by William "Buzz" Alexander of the Prison
Creative Arts Project <http://www.lsa.umich.edu/english/pcap/index.html>.
Buzz Alexander is a playwright and actor who collaborates with prisoners to
produce theater in prisons. His workshop will feature video of productions
he has done with inmates and discussion about facilitating creative outlets
for inmates.
