Leslie, thanks for your thoughful comments. I agree with your assessment of the type of projects they'd like to fund. Our mission is a tough sale, especially since the direct beneficiaries are not necessarily part of our community. I think the chances of getting a share of this grant would greatly increase, if our local jails would be the focus of the proposal. Since I have no experience in this area, I'd like to pick the brains of our jail-libraries volunteers to find out whether and in what ways their work would be facilitated and improved by a modest grant money. If a valuable project affecting our work at the jails can be identified, I say we should apply. Purchasing dictionaries, GED books, may be even paying a librarian for a few hours per week (too ambitious or beyond our parameters?) etc... Please send out your feedbacks.
