Hi Books to Prisoners folk.
I'm writing because a friend and artist, Brett Bloom and I would like to start a reading and screening group that will focus on prisons. We hope to screen documentaries and read books that look at the histories of prison and slave lease systems, prison narratives and critical analysis of our current "incarceration nation". We would like to hold the reading group on a Tues. night in the family room. The IMC Spaces Committee says that's great with them, but I'd like to ask what you all think. We'd overlap some of the tues. night work time, either on the earlier or later end, but it's the only day that my collaborator, Brett Bloom, and I can do it. We think it will just run this semester and we'll see where we end up in May.
Also, since I'm not a IMC member or keyholder, the Spaces Committee told me to see if this is something that B2P would want to 'sponor'. I'm not sure what they meant by that, but I guess it would have something to do with the logistics of getting us on the calendar and making sure the family room is open?
Any feedback or comments you all would be great. Thanks for your time! We'll some fliers out shortly about the times, dates, and info on the screenings, books. More soon!
Best, Sarah Ross
