Jay,
Great idea - I wholly support the conference.
I can put 2 or more people up at my place - 4 blocks from the IMC.
Maybe this would be a good event to invite those who are out of prison and
jail and who benefited from B2P to come present, perform, be interviewed,
and participate.
I suggest some simulcast through WRFU and let those in the county jails know
when and what frequency so they can listen in.
To respond to the (legitimate) concern about it this taking away energy from
B2P core activities - the question is: how could the conference be designed
to support B2P core activities? For example B2P could:
- have ongoing book sorting, pulling, ans sending throughout the conference
- taking advantage of the amount of folks there to take care of backlogged
requests and giving conference goers the ability to socialize over a
structured task.
- ask those who reside in the states where you have received mail but
haven't had the capacity to respond to follow up on recent mail from their
states.
- plan some major project that B2P has always wanted but never had the human
power to accomplish - building more shelves, deep cleaning and painting the
anteroom, creating a lounge area outside B2P in the hallway where outreach
materials can be kept, or ...
