Esther,

[ adding jail library listserv to email chain ]

Thanks for the report and for your extra efforts at the jail library! In
the future if a situation like this arises, please don't feel obligated to
just tough it out and stay there all night as a result of some problem at
the jail. We should simply be able to say "I'm wasn't planning on staying
past 8:00 tonight, sorry it didn't work out to see all of the inmates
because of the late start" and to then leave.

It's my opinion that as volunteers who provide a free and very valuable
service to the jail, we can expect a level of certainty and should not have
to be placed, or remain in a situation where we aren't totally comfortable
or doesn't meet our basic expectations. That being said, I think our jail
librarian volunteers understand that working in the jail is a fairly unusual
volunteer environment where we have to follow their rules and know that
unexpected things will happen from time to time which we have to adapt to,
but it's important to keep in mind that it's a two way street and it's not
unreasonable for us to expect that our needs are respected.

Thanks for all you do!
Jay
