MAKE A PLAN.
My focus in Weight Watcher classes for the last two months has been making
sure that clients customized their plan. I was so excited when Oprah aired
her New Year's "get healthy" show. She went on and on about making sure that
it wasn't a "diet" but rather that you made a plan that was personalized.
Well you can call it what you like, diet or not, but you have to create your
own strategies for healthy living. You don't have to re-invent the wheel,
but you do have to customize a plan enough so that you are taking ownership
of it and tailoring it to fit well with your life.
Don't try to create these strategies on your own. You can get the ideas and
support and motivational tips that you need. Oprah has Bob Green -- and you
well, you have me (and the rest of the Weight Watcher team, and members).
This week in my WW meetings we will be writing a contract with ourselves. If
it is the right decision for you -- I hope to see you there this week.
Regardless, begin your contract with your self.
Ask yourself these questions:
--What is the motivation for your goals?
--Are your goals specific?
--What strategies are you going to use to get to your goals?
--Are you flexible on these?
--How often are you going to check in and who with? Be specific.
--How long is your contract for?
There are no right or wrong answers, but there is no reason to delay in
considering the questions. Get some notebook paper and do some writing about
it. Talk to someone else for feedback. But do something. Get started.
2002 was a great year for me. I am achieving financial success with my art
for the first time. My marriage is fulfilling. I am fit, active, and
healthy. I have deep supporting friendships. I have a vision for my future.
I am very fortunate to have my job with Weight Watchers. You probably didn't
realize that I am paid on a commission basis at WW - so I am deeply grateful
to those of you who support me by coming to meetings that I conduct as I
support you in this journey. I hope, if it is the right decision for you to
join WW that you will not put it off. Each week I am sharing new information
that will help you in customizing your plan. Every week that you delay is
seven days of anxiety instead of seven days of solution. Whether you join WW
or not-- please begin customizing your own plan.
BE TEACHABLE. How many times have you said, "I know what to do - I just
don't do it"? I don't think it that necessarily true. A new restaurant
idea, a new grocery selection, a new way at looking at dieting, seeing
someone else's success -- all of these are things that can make your journey
easier. My meetings at Weight Watchers are all 30-35 minutes in length.
Please don't feel like you have to stay for the whole meeting if you are in
a hurry, but try to stay as long as often as you can and as long as you can.
Some of the meetings at WW centers are now express meetings that are only 20
minutes long. Not mine. If you need to leave, of course you can - but I want
to offer you as much information and motivation as possible. Changing your
eating habits is not an easy endeavor. You need all the ideas and support
that is available. I am available for a short time before and after each
meeting to answer individual questions.
Sincerely,
Sandra
