Greetings from Sandra Ahten. Besides being a motivational speaker and a 
writer I am also an artist and art instructor. Now I am curating an art show 
also!

This is an email letting you know of happenings in Champaign-Urbana IL that 
I am involved with in that capacity.

This issue contains:

All classes and workshops are taught by Sandra Ahten and are held at her new 
studio space at High Cross Art Studio in east Urbana. Please call or email

DEADLINE NEAR!!
***Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain***

For adults who have always wanted to learn to draw, but felt like they 
lacked talent or confidence. This class teaches "realistic," or 
"naturalistic," drawing. Students learn that drawing well is really a matter 
of learning a new way of seeing. Youth are accepted with permission.

Mondays 7-9pm; May 19, June 2, 9, 16, & 23  (Make up class any Thursday 
7-9pm or Friday 3-5pm)  Cost: $95


NEW!!
***Intro to Oil Painting***

A five-week class focusing on the basic techniques of oil painting. Students 
will learn underpainting, color mixing, use of media, etc., while painting 
from life.

Tuesdays 7-9pm; May 27, June 3, 10, 17, & 24  (Make up class any Thursday 
7-9pm or Friday 3-5pm)  Cost: $95


ONGOING FAVORITE!!
***Art with Intention for Adults***

Individualized projects will be based on the student's interest in learning 
new media, gaining skill in drawing or painting, exploring a theme, 
illustrating an idea, etc. Based on their own desires, participants may have 
weekly reading, sketchbook, and journaling assignments to help them uncover 
and discover an intention in their own artwork. Some previous art 
instruction or permission required.

Fee is for any 5 class-times in 6 weeks. Open start date.  (Call or email 
for specifics.)

Thursday 7-9pm or Friday 3-5pm,  Cost: $95

WORKSHOPS:


MEDIA BUFFET - SPECIAL ONE DAY WORKSHOP - Sunday June 8
A chance to try out various artists’ media without having to invest in all 
the expensive paints, papers, brushes, and other paraphernalia.  
Professional artists as well as beginners can explore different art media 
including oil pastels, oil sticks, watercolors, watercolor pencils, litho 
crayons, transfer pens, dry pastels, paint markers, acrylics, water based 
inks, and more. Instruction, inspiration, and all supplies included

$40 per participant - Noon - 5pm
$60 per participant - 9am - 5pm (with an hour break)


MASK MAKING - SPECIAL 2 DAY WORKSHOP - Saturday June 21 & 28
Students will be given websites to look at various masks prior to Day One.  
Day One will be spent designing and forming the basic structure. 
Embellishments and finishing touches on Day Two.

$ 75 per participant -  Noon - 5pm each day

An art show at the Middle Room Gallery at Urbana's Independent Media Center. 
Curated by Sandra Ahten, Dolls and Dresses as expressions of fine art by 
Colleen Brodie, Danielle Chynoweth, Julie Guyot, Sarah Kanouse, Deena Love, 
Liza Ryus, Jane Uebele, and more. Opening Saturday June 7, 7-9pm. 218 W.
