Participants will ride to local grocery stores and purchase food for donation to the Eastern Illinois Food Bank. Riders earn prizes by completing the ride in the fastest time and with the most food. Bring a bike, a bag to carry your collected food, a lock for when you are in the stores, and at least $5 or however much you would like to spend on food to donate. If you are unable to participate in the ride, we have placed donation boxes in both shops. Please consider donating what you can to help those in our community who are affected by food insecurity. Date: Saturday, November 9th Time: 12 PM Location: Bike Project is Urbana (202 S. Broadway Avenue) For more information visit the Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/943682385966000/. We Need Volunteers! We are need of volunteers who can commit to helping staff the Downtown Urbana Shop once every 1-2 weeks. As a volunteer staffer you would help open the shop, assist members with repairs, refurbish bicycles for sale, and handle sales of bicycles and parts. You do not need to have experience as a bicycle mechanic to enlist as a volunteer staffer. In fact, becoming a volunteer is one of the best ways to learn more about bicycle repair and maintenance! If you are unable to commit to regular volunteer duties, we could still use your help around the shop. Stop by during open hours and ask one of the staffers how you can lend a hand. Please contact us at contact at thebikeproject.org if you are interested in volunteering or have any questions. Meetings Annual Bike Project Meeting: All active members are encouraged to attend. During the Annual Meeting, members will cast a vote for new Steering Committee members and discuss plans for the next year. Monday December 9th Time: 6:30pm Location: Downtown Urbana Shop To view the meeting agenda and minutes from previous meetings visit: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1XcH71FB39dGsLABXjzEbYYUuJ1Ab9H9t. If you would like to add a comment to the agenda, please send the information to: contact at thebikeproject.org. Please note that the agenda is officially closed 7 days before each meeting. After the agenda has closed, no new comments or proposals can be added but announcements can be added at any time. Upcoming Events Don't forget to follow our page on Facebook for updates about upcoming summer bike rides and other community events! Campus Bike Center provides all tools and supplies. Date: Thursday Nov. 7th Time: 11am ? 12pm Location: Campus Bike Center Women and Trans Folk Night Women and Trans Folk Night (WTF) is exclusively reserved for women and trans (including non-binary) people to learn about bike maintenance from other women and trans mechanics. For more information visit the Facebook events page: https://www.facebook.com/events/1579340748881787/. Help Us Raise Money ? Amazon Smile Like any non-profit organization, we need to continually raise funds to support our programs. These funds are used to purchase new tools and parts for the shops and to support community outreach and educational efforts. You can help us raise money through the Amazon Smile program. Visit http://smile.amazon.com/ and list The Bike Project of Urbana-Champaign as your beneficiary. Next time you need to place an order on Amazon use http://smile.amazon.com/ and a small donation will be made to TBP. You will not have to pay anything for the donation, it is made by Amazon. Update Your Build-A-Bike Tags and Remove Personal Items Remember to update the tag on your Build-A-Bike with that day?s date each time you work on it. This functions as the ?last day worked on? date. If this is ever more that two weeks (14 days) old, the bike is assumed to have been abandoned and is available for other purposes, like a Build-A-Bike for someone else, or a refurbished bike. There is a strict limit of 14 days for storage of personal bicycles or parts. Any unlabeled or outdated personal bikes or parts will become property of the shop. Fun Facts and Miscellany If you happen to be in San Francisco for Thanksgiving, consider burning off that third serving of mashed potatoes by hitting the streets for the Turkey Ride. This grueling 50-mile route (https://imgur.com/YNLJe9Q) through hilly SanFran forms a nearly perfect outline of a turkey on GPS.
