Greetings!

I am throughly enjoying my wonderful October semi-sabbitical. I am getting 
my book proposal formed and I'm doing lots of painting and other art making. 
Thank you all who came to my Open Studio/ Open House. It was wildly 
sucessful! I'll be having another one in late Nov. / early December.

I'll be sending you a "Changes"  (Healthy Living) Newsletter later this 
week. But I wanted to get these announcments out to you who live in the 
Champaign Urbana area.

This issue contains:

*** Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain ****
For adults who have always wanted to learn to draw, but felt like they 
lacked talent or confidence. This class teaches “realistic” or 
“naturalistic” drawing.  Students learn that drawing well is really a matter 
of learning a new way of seeing.  (Youth accepted with permission)
Mondays 7- 9pm		Nov 4 - Dec 9	(no class on Nov 11) 	Cost $95

*** Art with Intention ****
Participants will have weekly readings, sketchbook and  journaling 
assignments  that help them uncover and discover an intention in their own 
art work. This class will be an exploration of  voice.  Individualized 
projects will be based on the students desire to learn new media, explore a 
theme, illustrate an idea, etc.
Some previous art instruction or permission required. Fee is for 5 classes 
in 6 weeks.

*** Creative Drawing for Adults *****
We’ll explore one element of design each week: color, line, shape/ space, 
texture, and value. This project oriented class will challenge you to think 
about the word “drawing” in creative ways.  Great for the beginner as an 
introduction to the “elements of art” or for the stagnant artist as a quick 
jump start.

Mondays 7:00-8:45pm 		Jan 6 - Feb 3	     Cost $95

*** CALL FOR ENTRIES FOR ART MAKERS****

Local art makers are invited to submit an original postcard for an art show 
and auction that will be held as a fundraiser for the AWARE (Anti War Anti 
Racism Effort).  AWARE is an alliance of groups and individuals working to 
oppose war and present alternatives.

A jury will select the cards of 30 artists to be hung and framed for an 
auction.  The remaining postcards will be for silent auction or sale. All 
this will take place during a Sunday afternoon music and art event that will 
be held on November 10 from 3-5pm, at Art Attack and Café Paradiso, 801 S. 
Lincoln Ave.

Artist submitting early will be eligible to have their worked framed and 
used as promotions around the area.  Artist contacts will be promoted.  
Multiple entries are encouraged. Any subject matter or media is accepted. 
You can pick up blank postcards and a copy of these guideline at Art Attack/ 
Café Paradiso or at the Art Coop, or simply mail your 4 x 6 inch work of art 
in an envelope with your name, address, phone, and email on the back to:

for jury consideration.


*** Women's Body Group ****
Participants will explore their thoughts, feelings, history and hopes in 
relation to the their bodies.  Each woman will be setting their own 
individual goals.  The group will be supporting each other in clarifying, 
assessing and moving toward their individual goals.  You do not have to know 
your goal “going in,” rather participants will be able to use the group as a 
way to explore their own individuality, what makes them who they are, the 
kind of experiences that have led them to their feelings about their bodies. 
  Discussion topics could include aging, exercise, diet, eating, addiction, 
ailments, dressing and others.

A group is currently forming with a maximum of 10 women in each group.  The 
groups will meet for 5 weeks and will be closed to new members for that 
duration.

Sandra Ahten, group facilitator for more than four years, brings knowledge 
of body, weight, and addiction issues as well as a holistic approach to 
recovery and growth that includes self-help, spirituality, and creativity.  
Cost is $20 per session. $100 payable prior to the first session, unless 
other arrangements are made.
