Hello friends, For those of you in Urbana Champaign area here is a list of 
upcoming art classes. I hope you can join me for  one of them. I'm offering 
some new day-time classes...  some classes that meet every day for a week, 
and some other more concentrated schedules. Please consider the Collage for 
the Soul class. Those who have taken it, have found it to be a fun discovery 
process.

UPCOMING CLASSES WITH SANDRA AHTEN

All classes are held at High Cross Studio in Urbana. Email or call for

***** "Collage for the Soul" - Students will learn a variety of collage 
techniques, including photo and photocopy transfer, papermaking and 
manipulation, and frottage, while exploring a particular subject, such as a 
place, a memory, an experience, or a relationship. No art-making experience 
necessary. This class will meet on Tuesdays from 7-9pm. Aug. 12, 26, Sept. 
2, 9, 16  $95.

***** "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" - For adults who have always 
wanted to learn to draw, but felt like they lacked talent or confidence. The 
class will meet on Mondays & Wednesdays from 7 - 9pm. Aug. 25, 27, Sept. 3, 
8, 10  $95.

***** "Fundamentals of Oil Painting" - This week-long course will introduce 
students to the fundamentals of oil painting techniques. Working from 
still-life, participants will learn basic color theory and indirect and 
direct painting techniques. The class also includes demonstration of other 
techniques such as glazing and scumbling. Monday - Friday from 9:30 - noon. 
Sept. 8, 9, 10, 11, 12  $95.  Some materials provided.

***** "Portrait Painting with Oils" - This week-long course will provide 
instruction in painting portraits from photographs. Monday - Friday 9:30 - 
noon.  Sept. 29, 30, Oct. 1, 2, 3  $95. ($80 if registration is received 
with registration for Fundamentals of Oil Painting).

***** "Open Studio" - Limited enrollment. Individual instruction.  Providing 
a chance to learn new media, gain skill in drawing or painting, explore a 
theme, or illustrate an idea, etc. Some previous art instruction or 
permission required. Thursdays, 2 hour drop in time between 3 - 9pm. $95 for 
5 (2-hour) sessions in 6 weeks.

STUDIO SPACE AVAILABLE

Shared space available.  Well ventilated space with water, work sink, and 
tables. Common area includes bathroom, kitchen, patio, and gallery area. 
$220/month includes space, insurance, and optional weekly "Open Studio" 
class.

CALL FOR ENTRIES

"Affixed"  A juried show to be held  in Urbana during October. Any 2-D or 
3-D collage or assemblage work created in the past 2 years will be 
considered. Actual work, slides or photos can be submitted for 
consideration. Consideration fee is $15. All work must be for sale. All work 
must be ready to hang. Work weighing more than 50 pounds must be noted as 
such. Commission is 25 %. Mail submissions with check to Sandra Ahten, 1408 
S. Vine, Urbana IL 61801. Call or email for more details or other 
arrangements.

FIRST TUESDAY CRIT

Artists are welcome to bring work for critique or come to be a part of this 
lively discussion. 7pm. High Cross Studio. August 5, 2003. Sponsored by
