I agree with Chris E and Danielle that we definitely need to have them think
about mobility, durability, storage and the overall needs of the IMC. I
could see these folks coming up with some really cool, functional stuff for
us.

I've drafted a response to Stewart below. Please feel free to comment or
add. It would be great to respond to him as soon as possible and I've
proposed that Community Connections take the lead on this and then connect
their folks to the working groups as needed when projects get started.

Any objections or concerns with this? -Chris

Stewart,

We thank you for you reaching out to the UCIMC to explore a potential
partnership that would be of mutual benefit. We're always working to expand
our interaction with professors, classes, students, and departments, and
over the past year or two our "Community Connections" working group has
taken over a point of contact role to connect folks like yourself with
opportunites within our organization. For example, this spring we
coordinated a Learning IN Community class who volunteered at UCIMC, and
several Media Studies interns earning course credit through their work with
us. Architecture seems like a great addition.

In addition to the projects you mentioned, we have had some discussion about
the potential projects, needs, etc. that your students might take on. At the
IMC each working group has some area of interest and autonomy, and come
together for group decision-making and consensus. In this case the potential
projects cross into the domain of several working groups, and they are
copied on this message.

We would be pleased to meet with you to discuss our organizational needs and
how a partnership with you and the School of Architecture could help address
the needs and provide a meaningful, practical community engagement
experience for your students. Based on the initial internal discussion we've
had on this, we think there are some unique design challenges for your
students to get involved in.

Our Community Connections group meets each Monday beginning at 5pm at the
IMC. This may be short notice for tomorrow, April 26, but if you were able
to come we could put this potential partnership on the agenda.

Best regards,
Chris Ritzo
