Please forward to anyone in Illinois you think might be interested!

Imagine learning new campaign skills, tactics and techniques. Imagine
learning and being part of a statewide network of student organizers
working on changing policies within Illinois , attending trainings,
educating and mobilizing others and preparing and then planning a lobby
day. Does this sound fun? Does it sound like a challenge? A learning
experience? Well, if you answered yes to any of these, then you should
apply for GLSEN's Illinois State Student Network.

This year, GLSEN will be working with 5 states, including Illinois , in
our "5 by '05" campaign to involve students in statewide campaigns that
make schools safer for all people regardless of gender
expression/identity and sexual orientation.

-September 13: Application Deadline for State Student Network
-September 24: Applicants Notified

This year, 10-15 student organizers in each state will form a statewide
network that will be selected through applications, with a deadline of
Monday, September 13, and interviews and notified by Friday, September 24.
Students selected for the state networks will then trained at statewide
retreats, the Power Weekend, on weekend dates still to be decided.
Students will be trained in campaigns and direct action organizing,
specifically in educating and mobilizing other students and allies in
their local community and region. After outreaching to students throughout
the fall, 5-10 of the most successful students from the state student
network will be chosen to attend the national campaign retreat, Student
Organizing Leadership Summit (SOLS), from December 3-5, 2004 to prepare
for statewide lobbying of elected officials, work with the media and other
campaign tactics for the spring.
