here's a copy of another "OUTREACH LETTER" which i sent to the Women's
Direct Action Collective yesterday.

it might be a useful text-file to have, in case YOU are drafting such a
letter to another local or regional activist organization.  

feel free to use it, update it, revise it, or send constructive crit. back

hi, WDAC participants:

i'm hoping you've heard by now that a group of allied activists here in
town have started up the Urbana-Champaign INDEPENDENT MEDIA CENTER [IMC],
a local outlet of the global INDEPENDENT MEDIA CENTER movement. we at the
Urbana-Champaign IMC are encouraging local activist organizers to network
with us and eachother by BEING THEIR OWN MEDIA COVERAGE, CRITIQUING
MAINSTREAM MEDIA COVERAGE of their actions, and using our site to reach
supporters, spread information, influence public opinion,
and--ultimately--shape a better society.

we at the IMC would love for you all at WDAC to think of our website as
the place where your experiences and your work can reach a local and
global audience!  we hope you'll PLEASE take the time to check out our

and feel free to upload some text, audio, or video which DOCUMENTS your
progressive struggle against gender oppression here in Urbana-Champaign,
which VOICES points of view which commercial media are likely to squelch,
and which SHOWCASES direct action speaking truth to power in the 21st
century!  that's what we're looking for.

also, of course, the IMC absolutely, positively wants to support upcoming
TAKE BACK THE NIGHT actions with feature stories, eyewitness accounts,
statement pieces, photos, interviews, video, etc., for possible print
publication and/or broadcast on the Internet, local cable TV, and
community radio.
