Radical Librarians Annual Report:

The UCIMC Library is a non-profit volunteer collective that supports the
information needs of IMC media creators and the community at large. The
library attempts to collect material that gives voice to those not
portrayed in the mainstream/corporate media outlets, and has a preference
for materials not available at other local libraries.

The Radical Librarians have been busy this year! In addition to
maintaining the already existing library materials, the Radical Librarians
have been working hard to make the UCIMC library more browse-able and more
diverse. Currently, the library contains approximately 1250 items --
including 600 books, 300 zines, around 100 videos and several dozen
periodicals. In addition to collecting materials from other media
sources, the Radical Librarians have also begun archiving the UCIMC's own
Public i newspaper. Currently, they are collecting 27 copies of each
issue for posterity's sake.

The Radical Librarians have also organized two zine readings, and have
several more in the works for the rest of 2004.

Finance:

The UCIMC Finance Working Group is in charge of maintaining the fiscal
side of the UCIMC. As the only IMC in the Global Indymedia Network to
hold its own tax-exempt not-for-profit status, the UCIMC is the fiscal
sponsor of nearly 30 other media projects around the world, including the
Global Indymedia Network itself. The Finance Group works daily to
disperse funding to UCIMC-sponsored projects in the United States, as well
as globally.

This year, the Finance Group has coordinated and raised over $30,000 more
for the UCIMC Capital Campaign (bringing the total to over $60,000). The
UCIMC also picked up around a dozen new fiscal sponsorships including:
Acorn Active Media Foundation, Baghdad & Boston IMC, the Global Indymedia
Tech Working Group, Indymedia Growth in Africa Project, Miami/FTAA IMC,
Champaign-Urbana Community Wireless Network, WRFU-LPFM 104.5, and Michigan
IMC, among others.

The Finance Group has also hired a membership coordinator, and over the
last year has conducted a membership drive, which has brought in over 50
new members. The Finance Group also upgraded the IMC.s accounting
software and accounts to QuickBooks 2004 Pro (which can do lots of new
exciting things, which the Finance Group knows they are probably the only
people interested in).

Also, (Zach, this is to be announced before the meeting, but the hiring
deadline is April 1, so it won.t make it into the report) the Finance
Group will be hiring a day-to-day bookkeeper for the IMC. This person will
be in charge of processing donations, and updating financial databases as
needed. As the IMC expands into its new space, there will be a lot more
daily activity going on in the world of the Finance Group, and having a
general book-keeper (as well as specialized positions like .treasurer. and
.membership coordinator.) will allow the IMC to better serve the needs of
its membership, its tenants and the community at large.
