Dear Finance Group:<br>I was mistaken when I said that remote access was not working. It does however, require set up in person. <br><br>Brian Duggan is ready to work with whomever in your group needs remote access to the finance computer. Please arrange a time with him to get set up. <br>
You will be required to bring your computer to the IMC so that Brian can configure it properly. <br><br>As his site supervisor, I've asked him to make this a priority. In fact, I asked him to do this the last time it was requested in July. If there has been a delay in getting this set up, it has been with Finance staff failing to arrange a time to do this configuration.<br>

You are correct that there was remote access. Brian and I are working on restoring it and Brian did reach out to work with you on setting up you machine. Tech has always been made up of volunteers, except when Josh was a Vista. Folks are just going to have to either get used to a different level of support than they had in the past or find funds to start paying for support.<br>
<br>We've all given our time and money to the IMC in various ways. We also all have other obligations. Some people ARE employees, whether that's hourly, Vista, Americorps or whatever. I'm sure you put in way more time than you get paid for, but that's your choice. <br>
<br>No one is trying to direct your activities. What I have tried to do is to tell you why "giving you what you need" isn't as simple as you just asking for it. Finance is welcome to go get their own support elsewhere and pay for it at any time. Until then, you'll just have to depend on volunteers who are already stretched too thin.<br>

You know what, Beth? I purchased, with my own money, a laptop so I could dedicate one specific to IMC work to connect remotely. I purchased antivirus software for it. I even purchased the printer/copier/fax machine in the finance office. I made copies so finance stuff did not go off site. I did all of these things to enable remote access -- years ago. We HAD remote access. I did not perceive it. It existed. Jason and I were very able to keep up with the mountain of work at that time. Fixing remote access would have gone a long way to support what we do. I have been asking for months. I won't ask again.<div>
<br></div><div>My last day as bookkeeper/office manager is October 8. I do hope that everyone will get on board and quit trying to "direct," without working with or attending finance, and instead support the work that the finance group does. I'm confident that these "self appointed directors" will now get in the office and do the work that needs to be done!</div>

there are two computers at the IMC, one of which is 'remote' but still at the IMC? It's a dangerous protocol to have

home? Joy happens to be awesome, but we REALLY don't want to have
finance stuff go off site, as an infrastructure issue. <br><br>Regarding the issue Chris raised of infection, while I'm sure Joy is right that she wasn't downloading, I'm pretty sure other people have done so. It doesn't have to be porn to be problematic- spyware is insidious, and most folks can't help but get some on their computer if they are using the internet on a windows PC. This is especially a concern with a multi-use computer (e.g. what people would be using from home).<br>
