Tech definitely has at least a couple alternatives that would be both internally controlled and private, as well as leveraging our existing LDAP authentication and authorization infrastructure.

The wiki (wiki.ucimc.org) is one choice. It's purpose is for groups to work collaboratively on documents, documentation, etc. The functionality is not the same as Google Docs, but does provide automatic versioning and collaborative editing.
Those are good questions, Brian. Basically we're storing all of our grant reports, applications, important historical or theoretical documents, stuff like that. Nothing that I know of that could really compromise us, but I'm not sure. Danielle thought Tech should weigh in, so what do you think? Do you think the Wiki would be appropriate for this kind of project?

Let's pretend I'm a total n00b: what is the purpose of the Wiki anyway? (Breathe!)

Thx,
Austin

On Wed, Oct 13, 2010 at 3:56 PM, Brian Duggan <bcduggan@ucimc.org> wrote:

What kind of documents are we talking about? What are your requirements
for sharing these documents? Will the IMC wiki work for this type of
collaboration? If not, what do you need the wiki to do that it doesn't
do right now?

Let's talk about this before we make hasty decisions that surrender even
more of our data to external private entities :)

Thanks!
