Dear friends,

I would like to ask for your help. My friend, Jessica Taft, is an
activist and researcher who is currently writing a book (her dissertation)
about teenage girls' activism and contributions to the social movements
against neoliberal globalization, corporate power and war. She and I are
also
considering making a documentary about these girls and their work to
go along with her book, in hopes of supporting girl-identified "activists"
around the world to build connections with and to inspire each other.

We want to ask for your assistance in locating some exceptional
girl-identified activists (14-18 years old) in the US and around the
world--or for help reaching out to any contacts you may have who might
know of girl activists. Some of the issues these girls might be engaged
in are related to debt relief, structural adjustment policies, free
trade agreements, war, food soveriegnty, corporate responsibility,
alternative economies, independent media, etc...

There is a message from Jessica below with more information about
herself and her project. She is also trying to find 6 girls
activists, in any of the following countries: South Africa, Uruguay, India,
England, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Argentina,
Bolivia, Venezuela, and Brazil, as well as one girl activist in the San
Francisco Bay area...

In regards to the documentary, I am looking for recommendations for
possible funders and of women DPs (director of photography) who might
consider
joining this project. Also, if you can connect me with any documentary
filmmakers you know who might have suggestions on how to approach such a
huge
project, I would greatly appreciate it!

Please forward this to your friends and larger networks.
We would appreciate any suggestions, contacts, etc...
I hope you are all doing well!

In Solidarity,
 Regan Brashear

*************************************************************************

My name is Jessica Taft and I'm writing a book about high school aged
girls' activism in several cities around the world and am looking for some
help. I'm a 26 year-old activist and graduate student from UC-Santa
Barbara. I
used to work with the Young Women's Project in Washington, DC doing youth
organizing work with teenage women there. I've also been active in a
variety of
groups working on issues of war, racism and globalization/global justice.

Too many people think girls have nothing to contribute to social
movements or just ignore them all together. So, i'm writing a book to
show that
they are doing amazing work in the world, are leaders in struggles for
social
justice, and have a lot of insights that adults need to listen to. And,
through
working on it, i hope to help girl activists from several different
countries
connect with each other.

For me to write this book, i need lots of help! I intend to travel to
five or six different cities around the world (english or spanish
speaking) and
study girls' activism in these different locations. So, I'm looking for
very
involved teenage girl activists who would be willing to be my guides
and contacts in each city. Some locations that i am particularly interested
in finding contacts for are: the San Francisco Bay area, Capetown, Delhi,
Buenos Aires, Caracas, Mexico City, Ciudad Juarez, La Paz, Montevideo,
Barcelona, London, Dublin and Glasgow. But, I'm still open to other
locations, so
other possible contacts in other places are still very much appreciated!

The 5-6 guides will be a central focus of the book and need to be open
to letting me spend a few weeks with them, seeing how they practice their
politics, do their organizing, and integrate this with the rest of their
lives.
Youth in any community know what is happening in that community better
than I do, so i would really want to learn from these guides - have them
teach
me what they know, introduce me to other girl activists who i could also
learn
from, etc.

So, if you know of any teenage girls who are highly involved in
struggles for global justice and might be open to helping me out with
this project, i'd love it if you can either pass along this message, or
send me their names and contact information so that i can contact them
to talk more about it.
Or, if you know other people who might know of some girl activists, please
forward this message on to them. And, if you have any ideas or advice,
or want
to know more about me and the book before sending this request on, I can be
reached at girlactivism at riseup.net or 510-835-1645.

In solidarity,
Jessica Taft
