my name is carly.
i volunteer with san diego imc and radioActive radio, helping out
wherever/whenever i'm most useful:  photography, outreach, fund raising,
organizing, moral support and as an occasional (and still very green) dj. 
in both mediums i go by aymara...
i attended the national conference on media reform this past weekend, and
hear that there's a feedback party going on here that i would love to be a
part of!  actually, i have been meaning to join u.s. imc for a while...
i've been involved with sdimc since the tail end of emergenC and the more
i learn about the indymedia national/global network - the more i love it.
i'm in this because i believe in the possibilities of the medium, in
activist journalism, in speaking from the heart and covering the
(ignored/misrepresented) stories that affect us and in creating the space
for others to do the same.  it was through indymedia that i first learned
about the violent and deadly clash in colotenango, guatemala, between
police and el pueblo fighting for their lives in the aftermath of the
cafta vote.  actually, it was ONLY through the indymedia network that i
heard about it... if i had to depend on mainstream corporate media to get
the news, i would go insane...  no, really.  i would.  shit's going down
all around us and it's maddening to know that the vast majority of people
(at least in the states) don't know, would rather not know...  and watch
corporate media gleefully play it's part in ensuring that people stay in
the dark, strangers to each other and afraid...
so fuck it.  here i am.  making my own damn media.
