Bellflower (1/2 hr away!) is the proposed site of a new factory dairy.
(3500 animals in close confinement)

I plan on driving out to attend the hearing next Tuesday, and can bring
anyone who wants to go! Please come! I'll probably leave around
4:30pm-ish.

I also plan on recording the hearing for an IMC broadcast.

On Tuesday, November 28th The Illinois Department of Agriculture will be
holding an informational hearing on the proposed Stone Ridge Mega-Dairy
Factory.

The hearing will be at the Bellflower Community Center in Bellflower,
Illinois, and will begin at 6:00 PM. (Please arrive between 5:00 P.M. & 5:30
P.M. to get a good seat.)

[Bellflower is between Bloomington and Champaign, north east of the Farmer
City exit of Interstate-74.]

We need to fill the room with as many people as possible wearing stickers
expressing opposition to the planned facility. This will be our main
opportunity to show publicly that the facility is not welcome in McLean
County or in Illinois! {You will not need to speak unless you would like to
do so.}

PLEASE come to the meeting AND bring a car full of people with you. We will
provide you with a sticker to wear.

Please call me at (217) 897-6171 or E-Mail me at DonTerRo at msn.com to let me
know how many people are coming.

Your attendance may be critical to stopping the Stone Ridge Mega-Dairy
Factory. (The history of the mega-dairy factory industry shows that such a
facility will have a negative effect on our area's quality of life and will
also cause problems with regard to property taxes, economic development and
air & water pollution)

BELLFLOWER University of Illinois officials say a [3,500-head] dairy
planned for the Bellflower area [between Champaign and Bloomington] will set
standards for the industry and give the local economy a boost. But residents
who live near the site air a long list of financial, environmental and
infrastructure concerns...

FYI - info about a similar dairy proposal near Springfield that citizens
stopped by building widespread public opposition:

Plans for 3,600-head dairy scrapped
April 22, 2000. Stonington (AP) -- A California man says local
opposition is too stiff for him to follow through with plans to build a
3,600 head dairy farm in Christian County. Richard DeVuyst had planned to
build the dairy near Stonington, but he said the public opposition to his
plan has not abated and he has decided not to proceed. Illinois Agriculture
department spokesman John Hearth said De Vuyst called Thursday to withdraw
the dairy farm application...
