attending: Dan (new person meatkils at hotmail.com), Avram Golden-Trist, Mark
Enslin (recording), Paul Kotheimer (facilitator), Omar Ricks, Danielle
Chynoweth, Peter Miller

news group meetings now divided into general discussion of story development
in first half hour, radio show/audio-specific issues in second half hour.

NEWS STORIES IN PROGESS

Danielle: a piece (that would also be offered to Free Speech Radio News) on
gay rights in Illinois--is in pre-interview stage; aimed for the October 28
trial of the 85% Coalition arrestees; will cover status of the Employment
Non Discrimination Act [bill in Congress], HB 101 [bill to add gender
identity and sexual orientation to categories protected under Illinois human
rights statute--passed in house, stalled in senate], and HB 1039 [bill to
protect motorcyclists against discrimination in public accommodation
recently expanded by Gov. Ryan via amendatory veto to include sexual
orientation--a move that looks good but might undercut the broader HB 101]

Mark: CARE-3 -- Citizen Action for Racial Equity and Excellence in Education

Avram -- Uranium train. Working with Mike Lehman of the print group; would
like to talk to Molly.

Omar -- working with Molly on C arle expansion story - trying to get text of
the 1995 agreement not to expand into Church street area, which C arle is
now trying to do. UCAN has been active on this issue; was supposed to be
notified but has been frozen out of the decision process. Planning
commission meeting Thursday. Omar did a phone interview with a C arle
spokesperson--for the
"C arle Auxiliary"

Dan -- attend the forum on the Bernadin Amendment (to the Illinois
constitution) for a universal health care system in the state

other potential stories mentioned:

union-organized Wal Mart rally, Saturday (tomorrow)
disability rights protest in Springfield
truancy ordinance in Urbana

RADIO SHOW

Paul wants to give over responsibility for producing the September 3 show.
Ask Sehvilla if she wants to do her biotech show then, or (considering her
health situation) Mark offers to produce the CARE-3 show for 8/27 and the
Gesundheit show for 9/3.

Paul has been working with the technical writing students on making a new
training manual for Sergei, invites people to give feedback on its clarity
and usefulness.
