Steering Group Meeting Minutes
Sunday, 11/25/01 12:10pm
Attending: Paul, Sascha, Brian, Mike F. (facilitating), Mike L., Mike W.,
Russ, Mark, Jennie, Peter, James (notes), Ellen.

Group Reports:

Tech: Clint has finished the file server and also donated a laser printer.
Next meeting is Weds. 11/28. There is a need to purchase a digital video
camera. They will discuss fund-raising possibilities.

Finance: All finances are going well. New CDs will be purchased ASAP as the
IMC is running low.

Outreach: Did not meet last week. Upcoming events that are being discussed are
the IMC Coffeehouse/Open-Mike/Cabaret tentatively scheduled to begin on
January Fourth. All who are interested are encouraged to contact Brian H.
(bhagy at urbana.indymedia.org).

Space: Did not meet. Question was raised about the minidisk shelves for the
production room. Mike L. will follow up with Dave J. regarding their status.
Coat racks will be installed soon.

News: News hours are going well, but there is a need for more volunteers. No
experience necessary!

Librarians: Next meeting is Tuesday November 27 at 8pm. Issues to discuss:
idea of a community online catalog/database, collection ordering process.

Print: There are still issues with distribution and coordination of delivery
routes. The Public I needs to be out on the street sooner. The next issue will
be a December/January issue. There is enough $$ to cover that one, but
finances are running low. Ideas for fundraisers are being discussed.

Old Business:

SOA: Zach has the entire live feed from SOA and is editing it for reproduction
as CD and as audio download from the IMC site. He needs help with editing so
anyone interested should contact him ASAP (wolfgang at wolfgang.groogroo.com).
The Atlanta IMC has much information on their website about SOA.

IMF: Ontario site has coverage. Brian suggests that there be a piece in the
next news hour. Mark will bring it up at the news meeting.

Coffeehouse: Brian, Darrin and others are working on it. January 4th is the
proposed inaugural show. Others are strongly encouraged to get involved. The
show is important to strengthen ties between local artists, the community and
the IMC.
New Business:

Finance— Sascha: The U-C IMC is beginning to get requests to be fiscal
sponsors because of our 501c(3) status. Our first official contract is for a
Paris filmmaker doing a documentary on abortion clinics. Generally, the
sponsoring agency gets to keep 3-7% of the grant for administrative costs.
Peter: what are our responsibilities? Sascha: contractually we are liable for
any wrongdoing by the project (IF we know about it!). Suggestion made to
contact the UI legal clinic to find out more. On a side note, the next couple
of months are prime grant-writing time and the U-C IMC is on grant givers’
radar. Sascha encourages everyone to explore grant possibilities for IMC
projects. He is more than willing to help out. Anyone interested should join
the finance group list.

U-C IMC anniversaries! November 30 is the 1 year anniversary for U-C IMC
incorporation and January 19, 2002 will be the 1 year anniversary of the IMC
being open to the public!! Plans will begin for an anniversary celebration.
Anyone interested should contact the main list.

Announcements:

Wednesday and Thursday are GEO work stoppage days. Several folks will be
covering the event, handing out coffee on the picket lines

Families of victims of 9/11 will begin a walk for peace TODAY 11/25 from
Washington DC to NYC. The full story is on the IMC website
http://urbana.indymedia.org. Keep those website postings coming!!

Meeting adjourned at 1:05pm.

Respectfully,

James Jacobs
