[Imc] locking doors:

i want to point out that the production room has a deadbolt lock and can
be locked from the inside such that only people with the keypad code can
open the door. if people feel unsafe they can lock themselves into the
production room. the production room also has a phone.

locking the front door prevents other people from entering the IMC -- thus
undermining the center as a public space. in addition, i and others have
been locked out of the IMC on multiple occasions because people have
tampered with the front door lock.

safety is an important concern; however, we must balance both individual
safety concerns and communal responsibilities and access. since the
production room can be locked from the inside, i fail to see why one would
need to lock the outside IMC door.

ideally the front door would be fixed, the building and bathroom would be
handicapped accessible, and many other projects would be funded. if it is
important enough to some people to fix the front door, i encourage them to
raise the money to do so. in the interim, please do not lock the outside
door -- lock the production room door instead.
