The Gender and Creativity Workshop

Schedule of Events:

9:00 ?10:15 am  Vocal Power
Description:  An active and participatory workshop focusing on societal
attitudes and inhibitors towards women and voice. There will be
discussion as well as audience participation.  We will practice
exercises to access an authentic and empowered voice.  Note: wear loose
clothing, and be prepared to move and speak.
Workshop leaders:   Lisa Dixon, Assistant Professor of Theatre, acting
                         Leslie Brott, Assistant Professor of Theatre,
voice and speech

10:30 am ?11:45 Women and Publishing
This panel will address ways that women have published their visual and
written work in recent years. The three members have experience in the
world of commercial publishing, university presses and independent
publishing. In addition to discussing projects that they have been
involved with, there will be a display featuring the creative work of
several women on campus.
Moderator:  Bea Nettles, Professor of Photography and author of several
independently published books of her photographs and texts
Panelists:  Carol Spindel, Visiting Lecturer, author of In the Shadow of
the Sacred Grove and Dancing at Halftime
 Cope Cumpston, Art Director, University of Illinois Press,
 designer of The First Look by Amelia Davis

Noon - 1 pm  Lunch (by registration only)

1:15 ? 2:30 pm "Girl in the Glass House: A Multi-Genre Reading.”

2:45 ? 4 pm Dreaming in the Flesh
Dance is the world of dreams, the embodiment of thought, ideas moving
through space and time. A selection of faculty and graduate students
from the Dance Department offer moments of a variety of choreographies
demonstrating the diversity of expression, of aesthetic, of the human
experience.
