Sascha Meinrath sascha at ucimc.org
Fri Jul 19 16:24:16 UTC 2002

FYI:

SUMMARY:
INVITATION TO THE AUGUST 4 BI-MONTHLY NETWORK-WIDE IRC MEETING. As noted
below, if you plan to attend, please e-mail your introduction, and a summary of
what is happening at your local IMC, to "imc-commwork at indymedia.org" as soon as
possible. We will include the information on a web page you can access during,
and after, the meeting. We will *NOT* be doing introductions in the main room
of the meeting like we did last time.

***
WHAT: A meeting on Indymedia's IRC server (irc is like a chat room, allowing
people to have real-time text-based discussions), of at least one liaison from
every local imc and network-wide working group, and invidusals throughout the
network, to update each other on what each of us is doing, and to discuss
issues that are essential to indymedia.

WHEN: August 4, Sunday, 15:00 GMT (check"http://www.greenwichmeantime.com" to
find the time in your place)
We are trying to find a better time for the next meeting that will allow people
from the Pacific to participate more easily. PLEASE send suggestions to
"imc-commwork at indymedia.org".

WHERE: http://irc.indymedia.org, #meeting
WHO: YOU!!! Each local IMC and global working group (like imc-video, imc-radio,
imc-print) should ask one of its members to participate in the meeting, with
the purpose of relaying information from the local imc/working group to
everyone else at the meeting, and, afterward, making sure people in the local
IMC/working group know what happened in the meeting. Individuals may also
attend the main room of the meeting. In addition, there will be two or three
chat rooms open during and after the meeting, each focusing on a particular
issue that is relevant to the network.

WHY: The indymedia network is growing every day and as we get bigger and more
global we realize how important it is for us to hear from each other. The last
network-wide meeting was long and a bit confusing, but several important
discussions did happen in the issue-based chat rooms. Also, many people had
the chance to connect with the network, in real time, for the first time.

HOW: http://process.indymedia.org/howtoattend.php3

The meeting will start in a "main room," which will be the place to introduce
the discussion rooms. WE WILL NOT BE DELIVERING INTRODUCTIONS IN THE MAIN
ROOM. Please e-mail your introduction, and a summary of what is happening at
your local IMC, to "imc-commwork at indymedia.org" as soon as possible. After
enough people gather in the main room, we will break out into two or three
issue-based chat rooms. (fewer than last time.) Please e-mail the
"imc-commwork at indymedia.org" working group to suggest items for discussion in
the smaller chat rooms. There will be translation to/from Spanish and
Portuguese, and any other language people feel able to translate.

AND THEN: This initiative comes from the imc-commwork at indymedia.org working
group, which is composed of a handful of people from various IMCs who believe
in the power of effective network-wide communication. The
imc-commwork at indymedia.org working group proposes we have these meetings every
other month, the first Sunday of every other month, to provide a time for
report-backs, discussion and focus. To help this happen, imc-commwork needs to
have more volunteers than it does now, from all over the network. Please join
the list (through http://lists.indymedia.org) and help make this happen.
