Last night's meeting about the threatened "reclassification" of Unit 4's
only black administrator, the Asst. Superintendent for Equity, was a
stunning community turnout, with close to two hours of public input,
telling the district how let down the black community is overall. At the
end, the board decided not to take action on Carol Stack's
recommendation to reclassify Dr. Henry -- saying they need more
information. Stay tuned to when the next meeting is announced.

NEXT WEEK THERE IS ANOTHER IMPORTANT MEETING. The long-awaited public
meeting for input regarding the Charter School proposal will be at 5:30
on Wednesday, March 13 at the Mellon Bldg on New Street. IT IS CRITICAL
TO KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING and show up to tell the district that to keep
faith with their supposed efforts for diversity and equity, they find a
way to make the charter school work -- because it is the only positive
plan on the table to improve circumstances for African-American kids in
the schools.

Please pass this on, encourage people to come, and come yourself. If you
would like to speak on either issue, you can also do so at the regular
board meeting, Monday March 11 at 7 p.m.
