Hi Jennifer,
News and information published online at www.ucimc.org is dependent on 
users. We provide this resource to facilitate citizen journalism and 
political activism. Some of the material is copyrighted, so its 
publishing by such users is under fair use provisions of copyright law. 
Any additional use made of it needs to keep that in mind, because such 
additional use may or may not remain within fair use provisions of 
copyright law. That appears to be the case with the original article you 
reference and additional comments posted to it.

That said, anyone with a computer can access what's posted on UC IMC's 
website, with the caveat that copyright issues involved in any use of it 
is the responsibility of that user, in this case you and your students. 
Provisions for academic use are relatively broad, but are limited, so 
you should consult with competent legal advice if you intend to use what 
you find on UC IMC for such purposes.

Thus, you -- like anyone else on the internet -- can access this 
material. However, it is your responsiliblity to determine how that 
material is used and to do so in a way that respects any existing 
copyright of material posted by users at UC IMC. UC IMC cannot grant you 
permission to use material that is under copyright by others.
