Wednesday, Oct. 17th, 2012 | 7pm  |  *FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!* ****

Funded through a Strategic Initiative Grant and sponsored by the Women’s
Resources Center, University Housing, and the Counseling Center as part of
the Campus Body Image Initiative comes a lecture for all of us who’ve
struggled with body image. Come join us for a lecture from scholar, Dr.
Jean Braithwaite, author of Fat: My Life in My Body (the Women's Resources
Center's 2012 Summer Book Club Selection) as she discusses her story. FAT:
The Story of My Life with My Body is not exactly about the American
"obesity epidemic," but that is its background. This literary memoir, the
intense story of one individual's ups and downs with her body, has
something to say about the way our culture shapes us. The book is a case
study revealing how one strong-willed teenage girl became fatter while
trying to become thinner (and years later, a middle-aged fat woman became
thin again accidentally). Books will be available for purchase. *Book
signing to follow! *
