Going Beyond the Landfills

Community Recycling Event to Benefit

Social Justice and Environmental Programs

WHAT:  The University YMCA's Dump & Run, a community recycling and fundraising program,
ramped up its May 2013 collections by taking over the University of Illinois's Annual
Housing Salvage Drive.  This means that because of staffing capacity issues under
the U of I's Salvage Drive, this year, for the first time, Dump & Run volunteers
 additionally went from dorm to dorm collecting, sorting, and packing reusable items
donated from move out days and spring cleaning.

On August 14th, collections will resume at the U of I Stock Pavilion. Most items
 are welcome, but construction materials, car seats, non-working electronics, large
exercise equipment and mattresses are not accepted. Items will be up for sale on
 August 24 and 25.

HOW: Already, the Y has received a greater variety of reusable useful and fun items
that would have been likely ended up in the landfills from dorm move-out days if
 the University Y had not helped out the University of Illinois.

WHY: Now in its 12th year, the University YMCA's Dump & Run Program has increased
its capacity to help students and community members throw less away during the Spring
and help people furnish their homes for a low cost in the fall. Proceeds from the
Dump & Run Sale benefit the University Y's mission, events, and programs both on
 campus and in the community.

WHERE: University of Illinois Stock Pavilion, 1402 W. Pennsylvania Ave, Urbana

WHEN: COLLECTION TIMES: August 14-16, 8:30am-12pm and 4pm-6pm & August 17, 9am-12pm
SALE TIMES: Saturday, August 24 | 8:00 am - 4:00 pm | $2 admission, International
students: free admission, Sunday, August 25 | 11:00 am - 2:00 pm $3 bag sale | 1/2
price furniture | Free sale 2:30 - 4:00 pm
