[IMC] Champaign School Board Approves New Administrative Appointments

The Champaign Schools Board of Education unanimously approved four administrative appointments at Monday night's Board of Education meeting.



Mr. Nicholas Gaines has been selected as the Principal of Robeson Elementary School. Mr. Gaines most recently held the position of Director of Innovation and Product Development with Modern Teacher, a private sector company in Chicago, Illinois. Prior to this assignment, Mr. Gaines held the position of Principal for Edmund Burke Elementary in Chicago from 2010-2012. From 2009-2010 he was the Resident Principal at Lindblom Math & Science Academy and Barton Elementary School in Chicago. Mr. Gaines's teaching career included an assignment as Intervention Specialist with Century Oaks Elementary in Elgin, Illinois, Technology and Intervention Teacher with Huff Elementary in Elgin, and Special Education Teacher with Champaign Unit #4 Schools. Mr. Gaines will begin his position as Robeson Elementary School Principal effective July 1, 2013.



Ms. Catherine Ahsell has been selected as the Alternative to Suspension Administrator. Ms. Ahsell is currently serving Unit #4 Schools as Interim Associate Principal of Jefferson Middle School for the 2012-2013 school year. Prior to this assignment, Ms. Ahsell served as Assistant Principal of Jefferson Middle School from August 2009 through June 2012. Ms. Ahsell joined Unit #4 Schools in August 2008 as a Special Education Teacher assigned to Jefferson. She began her teaching career as a Special Education Teacher with Chicago Public Schools. Ms. Ahsell will begin her assignment as Alternative to Suspension Administrator effective August 1, 2013.



Ms. Cheryl O'Leary has been appointed as the new Director of Special Programs. District administration is reorganizing certain administrative positions for the 2013-2014 school year. Ms. O'Leary has most recently served as the principal of Garden Hills Elementary School. This position will be housed at the Mellon Administrative Center. Ms. O'Leary will begin her position as Director of Special Programs effective July 1, 2013.


Ms. Cheryl Camacho has been appointed as the Interim Principal of Garden Hills Elementary for the 2013-2014 School year. Ms. Camacho is currently serving Unit #4 Schools as the Director of Magnet Programs. Prior to this assignment, Ms. Camacho served as the Assistant Principal of Booker T. Washington Elementary. The effective date of this interim appointment is July 1, 2013.
