Champaign-Urbana Folk and Roots Festival presents “Vishten” at IMC
Urbana, Ill. (June 9, 2013) – The Champaign-Urbana Folk and Roots Festival
presents the Acadian band “Vishten,” with special guests “Wagonfire,” on
Thursday, June 27, at the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center (IMC;
202 S. Broadway, Urbana). Co-presented with Piper's Hut Concert Series, the
show starts at 6:30 p.m.

For the past decade, the Canadian trio Vishten has dazzled audiences with a
fiery blend of traditional French songs and original instrumentals that fuse
Celtic and Acadian genres with a modern sensibility of rock influence.
Hailing from Prince Edward Island's Evangeline area and from the most remote
reaches of Quebec, twin sisters Emmanuelle and Pastelle LeBlanc join with
Pascal Miousse to form a sophisticated sonic signature combing tight sibling
harmonies, layered foot percussion, virtuoso acoustic and electric
instrumentation, to create a complex, expansive sound. Their trademark blend
of fiddle, guitar, accordion, harmonium, whistles, piano, bodhrán, jaw harp,
synthesizer, electric guitar, and percussive dance make for a unique tour de
force of traditional and contemporary sounds.

Wagon Fire is a five-piece ensemble that pays tribute to the Gypsy Jazz
music made famous by Django Reinhardt and the "Hot Club de France" in 1930's
Paris. The lineup includes local musicians Chris Strand on upright bass;
Dave Tcheng on clarinet, accordion, and saxophone; Phil Alley on lead
guitar; Sam Payne on rhythm guitar, and Claire Cannon on violin.

Tickets are $15 advance, $18 at the door, and $12 students; children under
12 are free! Advance tickets for Vishten and Wagon Fire are now available
locally at Heartland Gallery (112 West Main) in Urbana.

The 5th Annual Champaign-Urbana Folk and Roots Festival will return to
Downtown Urbana, November 1-2, 2013. For additional information, visit
