Don't miss this exciting Memorial Weekend event--C4A's Race Street Bash! We'll celebrate
performing arts, with hands-on workshops, an Electric Try-It Tent, KidZone, arts
 & crafts, and more.
Come on out for some good, old-fashioned street fair fun. We'll have lots of live
music, with guest artists the Duke of Uke and His Novelty Orchestra in addition 
to performances by our own stellar music faculty and student ensembles.
This all-ages event will have something for everyone, and it's free to the public!

of our free info sessions about C4A's String Academy program to find out about our
teaching philosophy, curriculum, group class activities, and more.

Time to register for C4A's week-long summer camps

2012 Rock Camp

are rolling in, so if you want to save a spot for your kids please let us know soon.
Our camps are all taught by a team of adult professionals who bring their training
and talent to share, and limited class size means more attention for each camper.

Each week ends with a performance. Of special note this year: Blues camp performers
will participate in a live performance at Champaign's "Blues, Brews, and BBQs" festival,
and Bow-Dacious campers will be the dance band for the Urbana Country Dancers.

Our camps are geared for a variety of ages, from 6 to high school.
This summer we are offering:

* Band camps: Blues, Rock, Beatles, & Acoustic
* Songwriting & Jamming
* Bow-Zone String Orchestra
* Bow-Dacious String Band (for bowed & plucked strings)

Boneyard Arts Festival

Bow-Dacious String Band

This year C4A  hosted its first-ever display of visual art in collaboration with
 the Boneyard Arts Festival with a visual medley of works by five local artists!

and volunteers met on April 12 for a nice gathering to celebrate the opening of 
our Boneyard Festival art display.  The artists were there to greet our members 
and guests in a festive atmosphere with refreshments and lively conversation.

Even in a crowded room it's hard to miss Sylvia Sullivan. Unassuming and sincere,
she will find a way to connect with you!

Sylvia and her husband, Ernie, moved to town about 10 years ago and bought the historic
"Lindley House" to open a Bed & Breakfast, currently known as "Sylvia's Irish Inn

at 312 W. Green St in Urbana. Together they have lovingly and painstakingly restored
it to its former splendor. If you stay there you'll go to sleep in beautifully decorated
surroundings, and when you wake up you'll get to chat with Sylvia as you enjoy a
 delicious home cooked breakfast.
RK: What brought you to this community?
SS: It's a good location for a B&B.
RK: What made you decide to run a Bed & Breakfast?
SS: When I was a kid, during the bus strike in Ireland, I used to walk to town and
see signs for B&Bs in the windows of all the Victorian houses.  I thought it would
be fun to run one.  Years later I met my husband, Ernie. He was in the Navy when
 we married, and we didn't get a honeymoon. When he got back from being out to sea
I took him to a B&B in North Carolina.  He'd never been to one before and really
 enjoyed it.  In the morning he turned to me and said "Honey, you'd be great at 
this" and that's when our dream of owning a B&B together was born.
Sylvia's involvement with C4A works on many levels.  First of all, she is a student;
she takes violin lessons and plays with the Cretaceous Band [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001eIX0R7tw09qReXfp8ekYGoEDSsDmX1kj7uRdCkaMWKHITG7qG3d0yIH_2O0TFrxeY3sgsSIxN845Pihg8LiVWCXG3vH6ExwDH13bRe5IprfEGE7fqtY1tEDa2mqIEuHVA6lG2osjahI=].
She also takes her grandchildren to their music lessons at C4A.
RK: Tell me about why you started taking music lessons with C4A.
SS: I enjoy the challenge.  I took music when I was a kid and always thought I'd
 like to try it again.

C4A recognized Sylvia's outstanding volunteer   service at our recent members' party
on April 12. Her seemingly boundless energy and love for helping have brought Sylvia
to a very active role in C4A's volunteer pool. Over the past several years she has
helped with cooking and setup for special events, cleaning and painting when we 
moved to our current location, soliciting items for our silent auction, and much
 more. She is currently heading the committee for C4A's bigger and better "Autumn

coming up on November 2.
RK: Why did you start volunteering at C4A?
SS: Well, you helped me out one time, and I wanted to pay you back. But I didn't
 know it was going to go this far!
RK: And now you're the head of our Silent Auction committee!
SS: Well, it's a good cause. I want the school to grow so it can help more children
learn music, and I want to give back to this community that has been so good to 
us.  Most of all I like music.
