Indi Go Artist Co-Op is pleased to present Voicehandler (Jacob Felix Heule
and Danishta Rivero), and Jason Finkelman in concert. Please join us, June
17th, at 7:00pm.

Voicehandler, the duo of Jacob Felix Heule and Danishta Rivero, is an
electroacoustic ensemble combining improvisation with original
compositions. They perform with voice, percussion, electronics, and the
Hydrophonium (an electroacoustic percussion instrument created by Rivero).

Their work, song cycle, comprises different nontraditional approaches to
the song form. It explores ideas of our origins and what it means to be
human, as presented in mythology and literature. Each song is based on an
individual text including the Yekuana creation story, and works by Borges,
Burroughs, and Hamsun. The music has been written as open scores, leaving
much room for Heule and Rivero to draw on their extensive experience as
improvisers.

Jason Finkelman's artistic concerns focus primarily on the performance of
improvised music, cross-cultural collaborative projects, andcomposition for
dance, theater, and film.  A Philadelphia-born percussionist, Jason
specializes in the berimbau, an Afro-Brazilian musicalbow, and performs on
a wide variety of African and Brazilian instruments, many handcrafted by
Adimu Kuumba.  Jason’s interest in exploring improvised music with unusual
instrumentation led to the Urbana-Champaign-based projects Ferrocene3 and
Nu Orbit Ensemble, as well as the New York-based ambient, avant world trio
Straylight.  He has worked extensively with choreographer Cynthia Oliver
including BOOM! (2012-13), Rigidigidim de Bamba de: Ruptured Calypso
(2009-10), the dance film AfroSocialiteLifeDiva (2004), and the “Bessie”
award winning performances SHEMAD(2000) and Death’s Door (1996).  For this
solo performance, Jason will present new compositions combining laptop
electronics and acoustic percussion.
