Pete Seeger: The Power of Song / Film & Performance
Wednesday, May 14 at 6:30pm in the Urbana Free Library Lewis Auditorium

Celebrate the vibrant and brave musical legend Pete Seeger (who would have
been 95 this month) by joining us for this special showing of the PBS
American Masters film *Pete Seeger: The Power of Song*.

Filmmaker Jim Brown had access to remarkable archival footage, old TV
shows, home movies, and the family photo album, weaving together the story
of the Seegers with testimony by admirers who represent his influence and
legacy. Testimonies include those by Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Joan
Baez, Arlo Guthrie, Peter Yarrow, Mary Travers, and Bonnie Raitt. Pete
Seeger said that "Being generous of spirit is a wonderful way to live," and
this film captures that optimistic fighting spirit.

Urbana singer-songwriter Paul Kotheimer will also do a live performance
that will include several songs made famous by Seeger. Paul is known for
his wit and passion, his versatility and tenacity. He has released 11
albums of original acoustic music on his own hand-made label.

*This program is presented with support from Illinois Public Media/WILL TV*.
