=========================

Dear Friend,

Adamou came to the U.S. 14 years ago from the West African country of Niger. He settled in Greensboro, North Carolina, because it had a strong Nigerien community. When Adamou encountered the pain of racial prejudice and rejection in his Greensboro community, he chose to do something about it.

He volunteered his time to help immigrants integrate into the community and find work. In fact, it was at an immigration reform interfaith rally that he met staff from AFSC. Soon thereafter, Adamou became a volunteer, served as part-time staff, then a full-time fellow at AFSC. He worked in both the Peace-Economic Justice and Immigrant Rights programs and was an integral part of the Welcoming Greensboro Project -- an immigrant rights program. After considerable effort on the part of Adamou and other Project staff, the Greensboro city council unanimously passed a resolution declaring Greensboro a "Welcoming City" -- part of a national movement to create more welcoming and supportive communities for immigrants and refugees.

You can support inspiring change makers like Adamou and double the impact of your gift by making a donation today to the Change Maker Matching Gift Challenge. We would be especially grateful to receive your gift today to meet our goal date. Though the "Welcoming City" resolution was largely symbolic, Adamou says it prompted city officials to take the needs of the immigrant and refugee communities more seriously. Today, as an employee of Church World Service, Adamou trains refugees on how to be effective leaders and active participants in the Greensboro community. He is also the current elected chair of Greensboro's International Advisory Committee where he continues his work to make Greensboro a welcoming city. Perhaps best of all, Adamou became a U.S. citizen in November 2014 and received his Master's degree this past May!

You can be a change maker today, too, by making a donation to support AFSC and change makers like Adamou. Your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar because of the Change Maker Matching Gift Challenge. Please help us reach our goal of raising the full challenge amount by November 30!
