Atlanta Invaded By Zombies (And Filmmakers)!

Atlanta is constantly under attack. Just in the last decade, Atlanta has
been invaded by mutants, werewolves, gangs of street racers, crazy news
anchors, and aliens--not to mention the weekly zombie attacks. Fortunately,
these 'invaders' only exist in the litany of film and television
productions that are shot in the city that has come to be called 'Hollywood
of the South.' And this March a whole new set of marauding filmmakers will
be attacking Atlanta for this year's Filmapalooza!

This year's Filmapalooza is March 2 -5 in Atlanta. Join hundreds of
filmmakers from around the world for screenings of the top 2015 48HFP
films, workshops, parties, networking, and more. Register by February
2nd to get the regular registration rate and secure your spot. There is
also a special discounted rate for festival attendees to stay at the W
Hotel, the official Filmapalooza hotel. The W Hotel is right across...

Using Film Festivals To Network To Success

Attending film festivals can be an awesome experience--seeing great new
films on the big screen, walking the red carpet, and feeling the energy in
the air can be inspirational to new and experienced filmmakers alike. But
festivals serve another very important function for anyone in the
industry--the networking opportunities at film festivals can make or break
a career. In the fast-paced world of Hollywood, you never know who can help
your career in the future--that fresh, new director you met at a small
festival could turn out to be the next Scorsese, or the woman you were
shooting the breeze with in the lobby could be the buyer for an
international distributor. Film festivals may be the one opportunity you
have to connect with the person that will give you your big break in the
film industry. It's important to have great networking skills in order to
make those connections and present yourself in the most professional and
personable way possible.

Here are some tips to help you network at Filmapalooza and other film
festivals you attend in the future.

Film Tip: Shoot With The Editing In Mind

Ever find yourself editing your film thinking "if only I had that reaction
shot..."? Once your initial shoot is done, it can be incredibly difficult
to gather your cast and crew back to re-shoot additional footage. Save
yourself this pain by making sure you keep the editing in mind BEFORE you
shoot your film. Take a variety of shots for each scene, including
close-ups, wide shots, pans, and zooms. Make sure you have plenty of
establishing shots for each scene--these will help set up the meat of the
scene later on. Remember that the viewer's mind can tune out very quickly.
Using a variety of angles will help move the scene along by keeping things
visually interesting.

Alejandro Montoya has a real life case of 'keeping up with the Joneses'. It
would be very hard for anyone to keep up with his award winning 48HFP
film The Joneses as it grows from short film to TV series to feature film.
Montoya and his team 82/92 Productions originally created their film as a
part of the 2014 Albuquerque 48HFP, where it won Best Ensemble Acting and
an Audience Choice Award. Based on tons of positive feedback, they decided
to turn their short into a feature length film. While still in
pre-production, another opportunity presented itself to Montoya and his
team--the 2015 Shoot Santa Fe Pilot Project. Filmmakers submitted 60-90
second teasers for a shot at winning a $25,000 package of goods, cash, and
services to turn the teaser into a TV pilot. The film rose to the top yet
again, winning the contest and giving Montoya the chance to share the world
of The Joneses with an even greater audience. Montoya and DP/co-producer
Ariel Rakes gave us some more details about the meteoric rise of The
Joneses.
