<P>here is my 2 cents, from working with PRC and Vietnam Vets Against the War, when there are emotions running high about patriotism or love of the "Chief", sometimes our physical security is threatened. I propose that we ask PRC for security for the IMC. It wouldn't hurt. I have been trained by them, I am willing to volunteer. We could have a training in the back room.</P>
<P>All, tell me what you think?</P>

<DIV></DIV>>Subject: [Imc] Security At The IMC
<DIV></DIV>>Date: Sat, 15 Sep 2001 18:13:04 -0500
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>I just left the IMC, where members were listening to a rambling message
<DIV></DIV>>left on our answering machine because of a letter to the editor calling
<DIV></DIV>>for consideration of non-violent responses to this week's tragic events.
<DIV></DIV>>If this was the only incident that had occurred in the last few days,
<DIV></DIV>>there would be reason for concern. Unfortunately, it is not the only
<DIV></DIV>>such incident to have occurred.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>As a Space group spokeperson, I will be keeping a list of such incidents
<DIV></DIV>>so that everyone will be aware of the situation regarding any potential
<DIV></DIV>>threats to the IMC. So far, there have not been any threats that were of
<DIV></DIV>>a violent nature that I am aware of, but it is important that incidents
<DIV></DIV>>of the nature that have occurred be kept track of by reporting them to
<DIV></DIV>>eitherr myself of any other spokeperson so that the Steering group can
<DIV></DIV>>keep everyone informed of the situation regarding security at the IMC.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>Preserve any such materials, such as notes, e-mail, or phone messages
<DIV></DIV>>and bring them to our attention.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>If you consider yourself or anyone at the IMC to be in immediate danger,
<DIV></DIV>>please call 911 and make the authorities aware of any such situation.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>If the threat is not immediate in nature, but involves the potential of
<DIV></DIV>>violence of any kind, contact the police at a non-emergency number
<DIV></DIV>>(384-2320 in the case of Urbana Police.)
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>If they are of the nature items such as on the list below, potentially
<DIV></DIV>>threatening, but with no direct threats made, or of an unusual nature so
<DIV></DIV>>as to cause concern, bring them to my or another spokesperson's
<DIV></DIV>>attention by direct e-mail or by posting to the main IMC list.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>I repeat, there have been no direct threats against the IMC, but it
<DIV></DIV>>would be wise that everyone, especially staff members on duty, be aware
<DIV></DIV>>of their surroundings and report activity which could be construed as
<DIV></DIV>>being of a threatening nature.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>I hope that this list remains short and that we don't end up having to
<DIV></DIV>>have a "Favorite Wacky Threat of the Week" feature. So far, I have these
<DIV></DIV>>incidents that are on the list:
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>1. The letter promulgated by the Objectivist Club printed in the DI,
<DIV></DIV>>holding anti-globalization activists morally responsible for the tragedy
<DIV></DIV>>in New York and DC.
<DIV></DIV>>2. Early morning phone call about Letter to the Editor by Sarah to Sarah
<DIV></DIV>>at home.
<DIV></DIV>>3. Apparently the same woman left message on the IMC answering machine.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>We will discuss this further at Sunday's Steering Group meeting and keep
<DIV></DIV>>you updated.
