<div>Illinois’ new Share the Road specialty license plate has debuted, with a goal of reducing car-bicycle conflicts. The plate has a simulated “Share the Road” sign with the image of a car and cyclist, along with the text “Same Rights, Same Rules.” The League of Illinois Bicyclists proposed the new license plates. The organization’s executive director, Ed Barsotti, says sharing the road “is a two-way street,” and cyclists and drivers need to each do their part.</div>

<div>The Secretary of State has already delivered more than 1,300 pairs of the new plates. Funds generated will be used for the League's educational materials for both bicyclists and motorists. <div>AURORA, IL -- A new specialty license plate promoting the need for motorists and bicyclists to “Share the Road” has debuted on Illinois streets.</div>

<div>The turquoise plate has the silhouette of a bicyclist along with a simulated yellow caution “Share the Road” street sign. The text:”Same Rights, Same Rules” runs along the bottom of the plate.</div>

<div>More than 1,300 pairs of the specialty plates have already been delivered and are on cars throughout the state. Personalized and specialty plates are currently in production with some already arriving on cars as well.</div>

<div>“Sharing the road is a two-way street -- Bicyclists and drivers need to each do their part,” said Ed Barsotti, executive director of the League of Illinois Bicyclists, the statewide group that proposed the plates. “The new plates help deliver that message.” Additionally, funds generated will be used for the League’s cyclist and motorist education efforts, such as children and adult bike safety information, driver’s education class materials, an online certification website, and police resources.</div>

Random, personalized and vanity plates can now be ordered through the Secretary of State’s office. The League receives $17 of the first year’s incremental cost of $51 for random plates; and, $20 of the $22 fee each year the plate is renewed. For more information on the plates, visit
