This show illuminates the close connection between the tree and the
furniture made from it, highlighting the creative process that starts
with the management of the forest, moving through the careful processing
of lumber, to its selection and transformation into beautifully
designed furniture. Coming from both the rural and urban forests of
Illinois, the lumber used in Schneider’s furniture is produced by a
small sawmill and sustainable hardwood lumber business run by Michael
and Patricia Johnson.<br> <br> Daniel Schneider is a furniture maker in
Champaign, Illinois and professor in the College of Fine and Applied
Arts at the University of Illinois. His work takes inspiration from
classic pieces of mid-century designers, with an emphasis on the careful
selection of figured woods and grain.<br> <br> Michael Johnson is a
traditional large format photographer, producing silver/gelatin prints
from view camera negatives. Michael’s love of the land and aesthetic
vision is expressed both through his photography as well as his
stewardship of a 40 acre tree farm in the driftless area of northwestern
Illinois. </span></span></span><br><br><a href="http://www.danielschneiderfurniture.com" target="_blank">www.danielschneiderfurniture.com</a><br><br><a href="http://www.michaeljohnsonphotography.com" target="_blank">www.michaeljohnsonphotography.com</a><br clear="all">
