<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:14pt;font-family:Garamond">The Oxford English Dictionary
defines “essence” as the intrinsic nature or indispensable quality of
something. However, how do we express the essential quality of a person, place,
or thing through visual language?</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:14pt;font-family:Garamond"> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:14pt;font-family:Garamond">“Three Takes On Essence,” a
group show featuring three recent graduates from Eastern Illinois University,
offers three different approaches to the challenging and invigorating pursuit
of uncovering an essence through artistic devices. </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:16pt;font-family:Garamond"> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:14pt;font-family:Garamond">Danielle Muzina is a painter
from Cleveland, Ohio who is interested in poetically abstracting familiar home
spaces to explore the relationship between the psychological and domestic
interior. </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:14pt;font-family:Garamond"> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:14pt;font-family:Garamond">Christen Contario is a
sculptor from Cincinnati, Ohio. The works in this show are extractions of the
intangible emotions of her own interpersonal relations. The body of work serves
as a point of entry for the viewer to examine aspects of their own
relationships.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:14pt;font-family:Garamond">Erica Young is a painter from
Danville, Illinois who explores the relationship between herself and her female
models, looking to present their stories from a feminist angle</span><span style="font-size:16pt;font-family:Garamond">.</span></p>
