 Good afternoon,

Thank you for registering for National Service Recognition Day. We are very
excited to have you attend the event. Please find below some information
regarding the day. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to
contact me by phone or email.

*Time:*

Due to the planned service projects from 10:00am to 12:00pm, we will be
moving the lunch to 11:45am and starting our program at 12:30pm. Everyone
should arrive at the Prairie Capital Convention Center located at: 1
Convention Center Plaza. The Parade will start at 2:15pm and we plan on
arriving at the Capitol by 2:30pm. The event will be completed by 3:00pm at
the Capitol located at: 2nd and Capitol.

*Parking:*

Please see the attached map for parking information. Meters will be bagged
on both sides of the Convention Center for unloading (Adams and Washington)
and on the North side of the Capitol for loading (Monroe). Please do not
park your vehicles at the bagged meters unless you are asked to by staff.
Parking for the event should be restricted to the garages nearby or to the
Visitors Center for the buses.

*Arrival/Registration:*

As with previous years, we will not have a sign-in table. Prior to
arriving, please have your Members and Staff complete the sign-in sheet
provided. You will then give this to the volunteers at the entry table.
Once your Members enter the Convention Center lobby, they will receive a
number that corresponds with a table inside the main hall. At their table
they will find an information packet for the day’s events.

*Service Projects:*

The Service Projects will begin promptly at 10:00am. Service projects will
be *first registered, first served,* and I ask that you please review the
attached spreadsheet that lists projects and let me know how many Members
you would like to participate in each project. *I need these requests no
later than Friday, October 15th.* We ask that those planning to participate
arrive no later than 9:45am so we can get them to the projects on time.
Please note that some projects say that you must provide transportation. In
those cases you will still meet at the Convention Center, but we will have
you drive your Members to the service site. More detailed information will
be given to you if you register for those projects.

This is the first time that Serve Illinois has coordinated service projects
for over 200 people, so we ask that you work with us to ensure all sites
requesting support are provided with Members. If you request a project that
is already taken, I will work with you to select another project.

Project may change or be cancelled due to weather. I will keep you as
informed as possible.

*Blood Drive:*

We will once again be hosting a Central Illinois Community Blood Center
drive at the Convention Center. This will be limited to the first 25 to 30
attendees that sign-up in the morning and complete the required
pre-screening. If a Member intends to donate blood, please have them
sign-up at the Blood Center’s table in the main lobby of the Convention
Center.

*Attire:*

We ask that your Members come in their Service Gear, but also keep in mind
that some of the service projects will have them doing outdoor work and
painting, so they should plan accordingly. Everyone is asked to wear
comfortable shoes for walking. The 10 day forecast is calling for 61
degrees and sunny, so please dress accordingly.

*Convention Center Program:*

During the event, we will have several speakers providing professional
development. One of the Speakers, Tim Miles, has asked your Members to
complete a brief self-evaluation. Those evaluations will be provided with
the packet at their table, and they will be reminded to complete those.

At the end of the program (around 1:45pm) we will begin recognizing each
program and asking them to come to the front for a picture. Since your
Members will be divided up among the tables, we ask that you choose one
person prior to arriving to represent your program. This person should be a
Member, and they should know to come to the front when your program’s name
is called. Let your Members know that they are welcome to cheer for their
programs and others. Once the recognition portion is over, you can meet as
a group to put on your AmeriCorps medals and line up for the parade.

* *

*Parade:*

The parade will start at 2:15pm. Please let your Members know that *there
will not be enough time* for restroom or other types of breaks when we
release you from the program to line up for the parade. They should
immediately meet up as a group and go outside. You are welcome to bring
banners/signs for the parade. We will follow the parade route to the
Capitol where you will be asked to reaffirm your oath. Once completed, the
programs will be released.

If you have requested a ride for some of your Members, I will be contacting
you later this week to give you specific logistics.

Again, we look forward to you attending National Service Recognition Day.
Judging by the registrations, this will be the largest one we have hosted in
Springfield, and with the large amount of service projects, it will be the
most impactful to the community. If you have any questions, please feel
free to contact me. My day-of number will be 309-235-7978.
