Dear Living Wage Supporters,

The following is part of an email note from Kathy Ennen, Champaign City
Council Member who will forward our request for a study session. If at all
possible, watch the council meeting tonite at 7 pm (or tape it and watch it
later). I think she makes a good point about becoming acquainted with how
the City of Champaign Council works.

Note that we will be asking for the study session on January 21, but that
we won't know the schedule for study sessions immediately.

 From Kathy Ennen:

It would be helpful if you and others from the LWA watched a couple
meetings on Channel 5 on Tuesday evening so you can see how the process
works ... we meet tomorrow for a regular meeting. Then we do not meet again
until first Tuesday in January because the remaining Tuesdays fall on
official state holidays, the 24th and 31st. Study sessions are on the
second and fourth Tuesdays each month.

I will pass the appropriate form to my fellow council members for
the study session at the meeting. It is a very simple form asking for their
initials of approval to hold a study session to explore the issue of the
Living Wage for the City of Champaign with Representatives of the Living
Wage Association and City Staff.

You will be notified by City staff when the session is scheduled and they
will need to meet with you to develop the report for Council. When LW is
scheduled will depend on what else is coming up for study sessions during
the first few months of the new year. LW is an important issue but it is
not a priority issue so it may be 4! -6 weeks after the 21st before it is
scheduled...just depends on other items needing our work and staff's time
to work with you to put together the report to Council. All Council
meetings are open to public. The meeting agendas are published in The News
Gazette on Mondays.

Hope this answers your questions ... it is very important that the
LWA reps to our council meeting take the time to come or watch a meeting so
they have a feel for how we do business ... different from Urbana's meetings.
