[Makerspace-keymembers] Bloomington Children's Discovery Museum workshops

Hey Everyone,

I just got an email from the Bloomington Children's Discovery Museum
inviting us back for two different events they will be having later this
year. It's still pretty early but perhaps this would be something to talk
about at the next business meeting. They both seem pretty cool, and last
time was super fun :-)

I'm also thinking since we've recently been visited by two different groups
of people interested in starting makerspace type groups in Bloomington,
perhaps contacting them and seeing if we can pull them into these
activities might be a good way to connect them with the museum.

Thanks!
 Jeff

Here's the email:

We loved what you guys did last year that I'm checking to see if you might
be interested in doing a few workshops here at CDM this summer and maybe
even into next school year!

First, I'm working with a local community group (low-income, diverse group
of K-6th kids) and offering a camp on Gadgets & Gizmos. The camp is July
14-18, 2014 from 11am-5pm and I was hoping to offer a fieldtrip and/or
special guests to highlight during the week. Would you be interested in
providing a workshop similar to what you did at CDM last summer for these
kids at this camp? I'm flexible as to the length of time for the
workshop. The kids in this camp are 4th-6th grade. We have activity time
from 12-2:30 and 3:00-4:30 but I can be flexible in the schedule that day.
We can pay you similarly to last year unless you have a specific fee now.
There would be a maximum of 20 kids and it is held at the Community Center
in Normal.

Second, our Innovation Station: Lab and Maker Space will officially open
this summer. We are looking for artists and/or community organizations to
offer workshops on Saturdays in our new space. The maximum would be 16
people and we can do it for kids only or families. We're working with each
individual as to the appropriate audience. We are hoping to start these
workshops this summer but continue offering workshops throughout the year.
The workshop hours are 2:00-4:00pm (the station itself is open 10-1 for the
general public). This summer we're looking at a few specific dates: June
14, August 2 or 9. We'll be working on the dates for the school year
next. Again, if this is something you'd be interested let me know. We'd
love to have you offer workshops on a somewhat regular basisJ (couple
times a year?)

I hope we can continue to work together as you are doing some fantastic
things in your space and we hope to collaborate in the future.

Thanks and take care,

Bethany
