opposite end of the hall from the bike project)







Want to learn how to "upcycle" an old t-shirt into a new tote bag? Eager to
work with a soldering iron to make a "blinky badge"? Curious about how a 3D
printer works? Simply want an opportunity to reconnect with alumni and
friends?

Makerspace Urbana member, Emly Knox (MS '03), Assistant GSLIS Professor,
will host a workshop for up to 25 GSLIS alumni on Thursday, October 9 from
6-7:30 p.m. at their lab in the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center,
202 South Broadway Avenue, Urbana. Those interested in the t-shirt project
are asked to bring an old t-shirt. The blinky-badge kit costs $3 for
materials. Tools are provided. Volunteers will be on hand to assist with
the projects. Light refreshments will be available for sale.

Makerspace provides an open community lab, dedicated to enabling the blend
of arts, humanities, science and technology. The organization welcomes
people of diverse backgrounds who can learn, teach, tinker, collaborate,
share, innovate, socialize, and create. The CIGG Workshop is a prelude to
the Heartland Maker Fest 2014, slated for Saturday, October 18 at the
Lincoln Square Mall (Urbana) from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Those interested in attending, please RSVP by Monday, October 6 to the GSLIS
Advancement Office <gslis-advancement at illinois.edu>. If you know your
project preference, please indicate as well to ensure enough volunteers and
materials are on hand.  Registration is limited to 25 people.
