Hi Emily:

I have shown an initial group of representatives from Books to Prisoners
the "other" space we envision enclosing on the first floor, one with
approximately 691 square feet of floor space. They found this space too
confining and thus unworkable. Because they are interested in at least
exploring the possibility of moving into the space you are looking at for
Makerspace, however, it has become more urgent to get a reading from you as
to whether this space (930 s.f. including the 8' x 12' room behind the
current stage) will meet your needs. I am reluctant to get BTP too involved
with planning until you have ruled out the space for your own use.

>From conversations with Danielle (IMC President) and Durl (IMC Treasurer),
I think I can comfortably say that the 930 s.f. space will be made
available to Makerspace at a below market rental rate that you could
afford, but  more than you are now paying. We are prepared to negotiate a
fair and workable rate.

Danielle has asked whether your layout of the room could be such that the
space could sometimes be used for other IMC purposes (e.g, workshops,
training sessions, art activities)--or would safe storage of tools,
equipment, etc. rule this out? I think she worries somewhat about tying up
this much prime space if it is not utilized heavily. If Makespace expanded
its level of programming and hence its intensity of space utiliization,
this would not be a concern.

Please give me an estimate of how long it will take you to make a decision
about the room. Danielle and I are willing to meet with you again if that
would be helpful.
