*Good morning!  I’m reaching out to you at UIUC because many parents and
girls have expressed an interest in having a week long Maker summer camp. I
know it seems really early to be reaching out to everyone but our program
guide information for the summer goes to our marketing department in
November.  *



*I previously worked at the Orpheum Children’s Science Museum and worked
with two ladies a few years  who taught Girls do Science Club about a
variety of topics over the course of a couple weeks. I can’t remember who I
had work with.  I’m hoping to do something similar for my Girls Explore
Camp.  I’d be happy to pay fee in order to partner with someone at the
UCIMC.  *



*A little about our Girls Explore Summer Camp series, The objective of the
Girls Explore Camp is to involve girls in safe and fun summer activities.
Throughout the summer, we provide the space for girls to be silly and
play, while also learning about a variety of topics, mostly STEM focused.
Participants do not have to commit to the entire summer; they may
participate for just one or up to all ten weeks. Campers will spend part
of the day focusing on the weekly topic and participating in recreational
activities.  My hope is to engage  girls to explore topics that they may
not be familiar with.*



*I currently have a partnership with the Integrative Biology department and
they teach a weeklong camp focused on biodiversity.  What I’m looking for
from the Independent Media Center is a few people to commit to being
experts and planning activities for girls ranging from 3rd-7th grade.
While our camps are 10 hours long, we only need 1.5hours- 3 hours focused
on an educational topic.  We are lucky to have transportation so our
learning can occur in the community. *
