GirlZone did many things to support girls in our community, including hosting supportive yet challenging hands-on workshops for girls led by talented and inspiring female facilitators. We will be doing this again for the reunion, with some of those who participated in GirlZone as kids now leading workshops as facilitators.<br><br>Danielle Chenowyth mentioned that you might have some female volunteers willing to host a workshop for girls and young women as part of our reunion weekend. This is wonderful! We would really love to expose girls and young women to Makerspace as part of our schedule. <br><br>Right now, we have an opening <a>on Saturday, August 1 from 10-11:45am</a> or <a>on Sunday, August 2 from 9:15-10:45am</a>. Would either of these times work?<br> <br>GirlZone has always required training for workshop facilitators/teachers. While workshop leaders clearly know their content area, creating positive learning environments for young women requires advanced thought and planning. We will be having a training for all reunion workshop facilitators <a>from 6-7:15pm on Thursday, July 23</a> at the IMC. Any adult leading or helping with a workshop is required to attend this training. If a few female Makerspace volunteers were willing to host this workshop, we would definitely welcome their involvement in the training.<br><br>We would also work with you to set enrollment and age limits that allow for the best learning opportunities for those in attendance. Ideally, the workshop would be suited for young women aged 7-13, though a workshop that has activities for older teens and/or younger girls would work too. Most important is that those who come are able to succeed in activities they take on without relying on others' help, and that they leave feeling they are able to do something again after the workshop that they previously did not know how to do before the workshop. </span></div><div><span style="background-color:rgba(255,255,255,0)"><br></span></div><div><span style="background-color:rgba(255,255,255,0)">This means that workshop activities should be developmentally suited to the ages in attendance.
