The long boat home

Once more water, green and salty
Waves battering me back and forth
The rocking another lullaby
That reminds me of my mother

Her hand reaches out
And grabs to take me down
Where I drown in wireless voices
Words keep me from you

I don't have a home
And maybe I never did
Two shores and clapping rocks
The media my monster

Everyone pulling at me
Father a dancing puppet
Uncle a lumbering fool
Cousin a screeching hysteric
TV a sightless mole

All I want is to sleep
Beneath the simple days
Of mundane childhood

Instead I have a fishbowl
Where I drift back and forth
Beneath the dream castle
Over the sharpened rocks

Inside the blue screens
Of millions of voyeur eyes
Watching for who I am
And what I might become.
