Subject: [cchcc-l] URGENT: Take Action TODAY to Support a Fairer Tax        Structure!

Dear Friends,

CCHCC's Campaign for the American Dream has an urgent CALL TO ACTION
regarding today's Senate vote to allow the Bush tax cuts for the richest 2%
to expire.

Please see the email below from United for a Fair Economy on how you can
TAKE ACTION immediately.

CCHCC's Campaign for the American Dream believes that returning to a
fairer tax structure is one of ten ways that we can create comprehensive
progressive change to restore the American Dream in our country – so that
Americans have access to affordable quality health care, can find jobs,
afford to go to college, retire with dignity, and secure a future for their
children and their communities. For more information on CCHCC's Campaign
for the American Dream, please visit us online at:

FROM UNITED FOR A FAIR ECONOMY:

The Bush tax cuts were unfair when they were passed. Now it's time for the
richest 2% to start paying their fair share of taxes.

The Senate will vote Wednesday morning on President Obama's proposal to
allow most of the Bush tax cuts for the richest 2% to expire. The plan
would extend the Bush tax cuts for one year on household income under
$250,000.

Call your two US Senators and Representative now toll free at
888-744-9958. Tell them:

 * Vote for S. 3412. End the Bush tax cuts for the richest 2%.
 * Oppose any extension of tax cuts for the richest 2% – even a temporary
one.
 * It's time for the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share.

Some House Representatives, through H.R. 8, are proposing to extend all of
the Bush tax cuts for one year. While neither plan is likely to pass the
Senate, it's important to let Congress know that you support more
progressive taxes. Your Senators' votes now will shape the crucial
post-election tax votes at the end of the year.

S. 3412 also lets the estate tax return to a $1 million exemption per
spouse and a 55% rate, and extends expanded tax credits that help low
income families (more info below). In the House, H.R. 8 continues the
current weak estate tax ($5.1 million exemption per spouse and 35% rate)
and ends the expanded low-income tax credits.

The Bush tax cuts especially benefitted the wealthy, and caused huge
deficits. Letting all of the Bush tax cuts expire, followed by progressive
tax reform in 2013 would result in a much better tax system. However, right
now the votes in Congress are about keeping the Bush tax cuts for the
wealthy or ending them.

So please, call Congress now at 888-744-9958 (toll-free). It's time to end
the Bush tax cuts for the rich!

After you call Congress, please sign our letter on taxes to President
Obama and Congress, which we will deliver soon, at
http://faireconomy.org/openletter

Please share this email with friends and speak up for tax fairness every
chance you get.

Thanks for your work to create a Tax System for the 99%!

Sincerely,
Lee Farris

The bill would also:

 * Raise $800 billion over the next decade, the Treasury Department has
estimated;
 * Set a top rate of 20 percent for capital gains and dividends;
 * Gradually end the personal exemption for households making over
$250,000, and limit their itemized deductions;
 * Extend the $1,000 child tax credit and the $2,500 American Opportunity
Tax Credit for a year;
 * Adjust the alternative minimum tax for inflation for another year so
millions of additional taxpayers would avoid the extra levies, which were
originally designed to assure that the wealthy do not escape taxation.
